Ten days is the ideal length for a first trip to Egypt. It gives you time for Cairo and the Pyramids, the Nubian south, a Nile cruise and the temples and tombs of Luxor, without rushing. This is the route we recommend most often to African American travelers and groups.
Days 1 to 3: Cairo and the Pyramids
Day 1: Arrive in Cairo. Our team meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel.
Day 2: The Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx in the morning, then the Grand Egyptian Museum and the treasures of Tutankhamun.
Day 3: Saqqara and the Step Pyramid, Dahshur’s Red and Bent Pyramids, and an evening in Khan El Khalili or Coptic Cairo.
Days 4 and 5: Aswan and Nubia
Day 4: Fly to Aswan. Visit Philae Temple and sail a felucca around Elephantine Island at sunset, then spend the evening in a Nubian village.
Day 5: An early trip to the temples of Abu Simbel, built by Ramses II on the edge of Nubia. In the afternoon, board your Nile cruise.
Days 6 to 8: Nile cruise to Luxor
Day 6: Sail north to Kom Ombo and Edfu, two of the best-preserved temples in Egypt.
Day 7: Arrive in Luxor. Explore Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple on the East Bank.
Day 8: Optional sunrise hot air balloon ride, then the West Bank: the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon.
Days 9 and 10: Back to Cairo
Day 9: Fly back to Cairo for a free afternoon of shopping or a farewell dinner on the Nile.
Day 10: Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
