The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx
The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the last surviving wonder of the ancient world. Next to it stand the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure and the Great Sphinx. Go early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds, and consider a camel ride or a quad bike tour in the desert behind the pyramids.
The museums

Saqqara and Dahshur
South of Giza, Saqqara has the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest pyramid in Egypt, and beautifully painted tombs. Nearby Dahshur has the Red and Bent Pyramids, which you can often enjoy with few other visitors.
Islamic and Coptic Cairo
Old Cairo is a living history lesson. Visit the Citadel and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, walk the medieval streets of Islamic Cairo, and see the Hanging Church and the ancient churches of Coptic Cairo, home to one of the oldest Christian communities in the world.
Khan El Khalili
End a day in the famous bazaar, shopping for spices, lamps and jewelry, and stop for mint tea at a traditional café. Agree prices before you buy and bargain with a smile.
