Black travelers at the Red Sea with Black Egypt Tours

Red Sea Guide: Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and the Best Snorkeling

After the temples and tombs of the Nile Valley, a few days on the Red Sea are the perfect way to relax. Warm, clear water, coral reefs and year-round sunshine make Egypt’s coast one of the best beach destinations in the region.

Where to stay

  • Hurghada: the most popular resort town, with many hotels and easy boat trips to the reefs. It is also a few hours by road from Luxor.
  • El Gouna: a stylish lagoon town north of Hurghada.
  • Sharm El Sheikh: on the Sinai Peninsula, close to Ras Mohammed National Park.
  • Marsa Alam: quieter, further south, known for dolphins and sea turtles.

Snorkeling and diving

You do not need to be a diver to enjoy the reefs. Snorkeling trips by boat visit colorful coral gardens full of fish, and beginners can try an introductory dive with an instructor. If you are a certified diver, the Red Sea offers world-class wrecks and walls.

Other things to do

  • Glass-bottom boat trips.
  • Desert quad and jeep safaris with Bedouin dinners.
  • Day trips from Hurghada to Luxor or Cairo.

When to go

The Red Sea is pleasant all year. The water is warmest from summer to autumn, while winter days are mild and sunny.

Adding the beach to your trip

Many of our packages combine Cairo and a Nile cruise with Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh. See our tours from Hurghada, our honeymoon packages and the 10-day itinerary, then add a few beach days at the end.
